RENOVATION OF A SMALL FLAT
EIXAMPLE, BARCELONA
2021/2023
The project focuses on rehabilitating a small pass-through apartment in Barcelona's Eixample district, housed within a 1920s modernist building. The apartment is designed around two equally proportioned spaces that open onto both the interior courtyard and the street. Central to its functionality and layout is a piece of wooden furniture designed to seamlessly integrate all necessary functions. This furniture serves to bridge these spaces, enhancing visual continuity and connectivity within the apartment and towards the exterior. Not only does this approach improve sightlines within the apartment and towards both the courtyard and the street, but it also enhances cross-ventilation.
Additionally, the rehabilitation project includes the creation of two distinct hydraulic tile carpets—one for each area of the apartment (courtyard and street)—crafted from original tiles reclaimed during the restoration process. Furthermore, the intervention has preserved the original structural elements while also exposing newly installed reinforcements where needed.
